Glens Falls, New York (November 23, 2022) – Around 10am this morning, a 911 call was received regarding a gas explosion in the vicinity of Luzerne Road and Veterans Road, also known as Tech Meadows. More specifically, a gas explosion took place behind the UA Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 773 located at 37 Luzerne Road in Glens Falls.

The actual explosion took place in one of the two storage units located behind Local 773 and involved two (2) individuals – both male – ages 36 and 55.
One of the individuals was looking to take some tables out of the storage unit for a Thanksgiving celebration. When that individual opened the door of the unit, there was a strong smell of gas. Both individuals had entered the unit once to remove a table and had re-entered the unit a second time when the explosion occurred.
The Glens Falls Fire Department had the lead on the scene and was assisted by the West Glens Falls Fire Department and West Glens Falls EMS. The Glens Falls Police Department was also present.
When the Glens Falls Fire Department arrived on the scene, there was an active fire burning. It was realized while extinguishing the fire that there were two (2) grills located inside the storage unit – both grills included normal twenty (20) pound propane tanks. Both grills with the tanks were removed from the storage unit, and they were both rendered safe.
The two (2) individuals involved in the gas explosion were flown by helicopter to Burlington Medical Center (VT) for treatment.
An investigation does continue to find out what caused the ignition of the explosion.
