Fire and Ice Winter Celebration Friday, February 25, at Crandall Park Pond Canceled Due To Weather

(February 25, 2022, Glens Falls, NY) The City of Glens Falls announced today that the Fire & Ice Winter Celebration at the Crandall Park ice skating pond scheduled for tonight, Friday, February, 25, has been canceled because of  Friday’s heavy storm, which has covered the ice surface.  Because of the heavy snowfall DPW crews are not available to clear and groom the ice surface as they did for the pond’s opening in January.

This was scheduled to be the final celebration in a series of four during February.  The first was canceled due to a similar heavy snowfall, the second and third were canceled due to unseasonably warm weather.

The ice was to be specially lighted for ice skating, with six bonfires tended by volunteers and music by area DJ Peter Wilhelm.

Although the celebration was frustrated by the elements, Mayor Collins would like to thank and salute all the volunteers who worked to make the event possible, notably Third Ward Councilmember Diana Palmer, who originated the project in 2019, personally donating 22 gallons of hot chocolate, and also especially thank Garden Time for donating a warming hut, which unfortunately was never used.
