Hall and Reid Will Not Seek Re-election

GLENS FALLS – Mayor Daniel L. Hall and Councilwoman-at-Large Jane R. Reid announced jointly Monday that they would not seek re-election for a second term as Mayor and Councilor-at-Large in the 2021 elections for City of Glens Falls offices. Both Mayor Hall and At-Large Councilwoman Reid were part of the “unity ticket” during the 2017 elections. Hall, a Democrat and Reid, a Republican, ran together as a team.

Mayor Hall said it’s been an honor to serve the people of Glens Falls.

“I’m humbled by the support we’ve received from the Glens Falls community,” Mayor Hall said. “We’ve been able to accomplish much and it’s because of the team we’ve had on the Common Council and the community support City government has received.

At-Large Councilwoman Reid echoed Mayor Hall’s comments.

“It’s been a total team approach,” Reid said. “We all have different strengths and because of that, we’ve complimented each other and been able to move the City forward.”

The decision not to seek re-election marks the latest turn in the paths of two individuals who have each spent more than two decades in volunteer or elected service to the Glens Falls community.

Mayor Hall served on the Glens Falls Planning Board for four years, served as a supervisor at the county level for two years, served on the Glens Falls Recreation Commission for four years, as Councilman-at-Large for nine years and is in the final year of a four-year term as Mayor. He’s also been active on a number of committees and has been a longtime member of the group that organizes the state high school basketball tournament.

Councilwoman-at-Large Reid served 15 years on the Glens Falls City School District School Board, 10 years on the Glens Falls Planning Board, 10 years as a member of the Chapman Historical Museum Board, five years on the Board of the Glens Falls Home, four years as Ward 3 Councilwoman; and for the last 16 years, continues to serve on the board of Warren County Head Start as well as her current office of Councilwoman-at-Large.

“It’s time to pursue other things,” Mayor Hall said.

Hall, whose wife Sharon recently retired, said he anticipates more time with his family, especially with his two-year-old grandson George, who reigns as the star of Mayor Hall’s Facebook page.

Both Hall and Reid said they hope to make the most of their last year in elected office in a number of areas, not the least of which is moving the city’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative forward. During their administration, city leaders have had to work through diverse challenges including the Coronavirus pandemic, a tornado, the area’s largest snowstorm in more than 60 years, and especially the tragic and untimely passing of Ed Bartholomew, who was both a mentor to Hall and Reid as well as being the driving force behind the Downtown Revitalization Initiative.

“Ed’s shoes are impossible to fill,” Hall said. “But we’re finding our way forward little by little, and as a team, we’re making progress.”

Both Mayor Hall and At-Large Councilwoman Reid’s term will end on December 31, 2021. Neither Hall nor Reid would rule out continuing their community involvement.

“I plan to stay active and contribute where I can,” Reid said.

“Ditto,” echoed the Mayor.
