Glens Falls Housing Authority Breaks Ground on New Office

Move Allows Expansion of Residents’ Community Room at Stichman Towers

The Glens Falls Housing Authority has begun construction on a new free-standing administrative office building on property it owns next to the Cronin High Rise building on Ridge Street in downtown Glens Falls.

The move will allow the Housing Authority to expand the resident community room at Stichman Towers on Jay Street as it moves forward with the planned renovations and upgrades at all of its senior housing facilities. The administrative office is currently located on the first floor of the Stichman Towers building.

“Our community room at Stichman can only accommodate 30 people in a building with 81 apartments,” explained Robert J. Landry, GFHA’s Executive Director. “By moving our offices out of the building, when the property is renovated there will be room for a community space three times the current size.”

In addition to being able to hold larger events for the building’s residents, the expanded community room will also be designated a staging area in GFHA’s disaster-preparedness plans.

The new one-story administrative office building will be a 2,400-square-foot building with an open space interior design. The exterior will match the design of the Cronin High Rise. The building will include state-of-the-art environmental heating, air conditioning, lighting and information technology hardware, exterior stormwater controls including rain gardens, and will be fully ADA- and security-compliant.

Construction is expected to be completed by December, and the Glens Falls Housing Authority staff will likely move in to the new building by the end of 2020.
