[ARCHIVED] MAYOR EXPANDS HOURS AT COLE’S WOODS RECREATION TRAILS

GLENS FALLS – Skiers, snowshoe enthusiasts, hikers and runners can hit the trail earlier this winter with expanded recreation trail hours in Cole’s Woods, Mayor John A. Diamond announced Tuesday.

The Cole’s Woods Recreation Trails will be lighted mornings this winter from 5 a.m. until dawn in addition to the evening lighted hours of past seasons.

“In keeping with our push for a healthier Glens Falls, we want to encourage outdoor activity during the winter months,” Mayor Diamond said. “We’ve gotten several requests from city residents seeking early morning access to the trails and it seemed like a reasonable and appropriate request.”

Sufficient funds exist in the Recreation Department budget to cover the added cost of electricity, Mayor Diamond said.

Crews are in the process of repairing trail lighting left damaged in the aftermath of tropical storm Irene earlier this year. Once repairs are made and the trails receive sufficient snow, the new lighting schedule will go into effect.
